The Heir to the Cowl side mission in Batman: Arkham Knight puts players in control of Azrael as he tries to prove himself worthy of becoming Gotham City's next protector. To complete this questline, players must locate four burning Bat-symbols scattered across the rooftops of Gotham's main islands. Each location triggers a specialized combat trial where Azrael must defeat groups of enemies without taking a single hit.
First Encounter on Miagani Island
The quest begins on Miagani Island shortly after investigating the crash site during the main story campaign. You can spot the burning symbol on a rooftop located just west of the Bank of Gotham. Azrael faces six standard militia soldiers in this introductory challenge. Staying patient and countering incoming strikes ensures a flawless victory without resetting the trial.
Second Encounter on Founders' Island
After completing the first trial, the second signal appears on Founders' Island in the Otisburg district. Search the rooftops south of the fire station to locate the burning mark and activate the next test. This encounter increases the difficulty by introducing seven thugs and a heavy Brute enemy. Players should prioritize dodging thrown objects while maintaining continuous freeflow combos to dispatch the Brute safely.
Third Encounter on Bleake Island
The third location requires traveling to Chinatown on Bleake Island near the western traffic circle. Look for the glowing symbol on top of the local buildings to begin the combat scenario. Azrael must take down nine enemies alongside a Medic who attempts to revive fallen allies. Disabling the Medic early using quick-fire gadgets prevents long fights and lowers the risk of taking unwanted damage.
Final Trial at the Lady of Gotham
The final combat challenge takes place on the island housing the massive Lady of Gotham statue. Azrael confronts six highly skilled Combat Specialists equipped with dangerous swords. Mastering environmental counters and precise blade dodge takedowns is critical for surviving their aggressive movement patterns. Completing this trial leads directly to the Clock Tower to analyze Azrael's neural patterns and finish the storyline.
