Email Hoaxes & Scams
Everyone gets them - everyone hates them - those annoying mass forwarded chain emails, and last but not least, those pesky little SPAM hoaxes. The problem now is, how do we differentiate between what is legitimate and what is a hoax.
Roaring Aardvark Web Design is not immune to these emails, but fortunately we stay alert to new attacks and try to inform our clients about the new and creative urban legends and the ways that these malicious SPAMMERS attempt to trick you into downloading their viruses. Below is a list of some of the emails we have received here at our offices. Be aware - you should never, ever open or download an attachment in an email when you don't know or can't fully trust the sender.
Spam Prevention
To submit a spam incident, please email MXLogic's Threat Center at spam@mxlogic.com with a copy of the spam message you received and its corresponding complete header information.
Final Notice of Domain Extension (faxed)
Two of our clients have received faxes from "Domain Support Services" informing them that their domain names will expire if they do not respond to the fax. We found that the domain name in question is not one that the client actually owns - instead it has a different suffix (.com, .net, .us). Toss this fax into the waste bin - or call us and we'll help you sort through it. See a scan of the fax sent to us by one of our clients.
Domain Registry of America - Scam
This one's a stinker - it looks like a legitimate call for you to renew your domain name, but it's actually a way to transfer your name away from your current registrar and to their services. Find out more information and view an example of what the letter looks like.
